It would be easy to feel despondent after the local election results. We are disappointed that we will not get the chance to serve Merton’s residents as Councillors. But we remain the party of hope, despite Labour’s and Reform’s wild claims to try to discredit us, and we know that the surge in members and supporters makes us a stronger force for positive change than ever before.
Heartfelt thanks to every person who voted Green on 7 May. The numbers prove that we are a party to be taken seriously, and we are truly honoured that you chose to put your trust in us. We came second in 11/20 wards, and were within touching distance of a win in St Helier. We join our fellow Greens in celebrating many compelling wins across London and the UK.
To those who donated their time and skills to our campaign, thank you so much. You have energised us immeasurably. We will continue to build on this momentum to strengthen community bonds in the borough.
We will continue to hold those in power to account and push for improvements that make Merton a more equitable, resilient, sustainable and welcoming place. There is plenty of work that we cannot wait to get stuck into! If you want to be part of the change that you want to see, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
